Bradshaw, Colts Talking, But No Deal Yet

From Kyle McMorrow, independent Giants blogger…

It took nearly three months, but it’s looking like former Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw finally found a new backfield to star in. reporter Kimberly Jones cites a source close to negotiations as saying it “looks like the Colts and Bradshaw are going to get a contract done,” quite the steal considering he is only 27 years-old, and is coming off a 1,000-yard season for the G-Men.

But Bradshaw’s health concerns have overshadowed his talent this off season leading to months of inactivity.

Bradshaw, who has dealt with neck injuries and multiple surgeries on his right foot, has only survived one full season in his entire six-year career. Finally cleared for football activities, Bradshaw would be entering an ideal situation in Indianapolis thanks to a very mediocre backfield.

Second year back Vick Ballard is projected to be the starter, but he doesn’t seem like an ideal fit for Pep Hamilton’s West Coast offense. Ballard reeled in only 17 passes during his rookie campaign, and wasn’t a great pass protector. While Bradshaw’s unique ability to run, catch, and block, makes him a more valuable asset, the Colts may use caution with the Super Bowl champ, and just slot him ahead of back up running back Donald Brown.

Either way, Bradshaw would certainly get a lot more action than the seat of of his couch was about to show him this season.

Jones subsequently reported that the deal has hit a “stalemate”…

Since Bradshaw hasn’t had any serious suitors, the Colts may feel they are bidding against themselves. The former Giant star ┬áhasn’t seen as much as a morsel of interest since doctors cleared him fit in late April.
