Wednesday Update: ARob ready to break out?

John Fennelly, Lead Writer

Enjoy today, because more misery is coming our way via snow, rain and ice beginning tonight. Enough is enough, already.  Here’s some Giant news…

Stop me if you heard this before: TE Adrien Robinson expects 2014 to be his “breakout” season.

“I hope so,” he said. “It has to be this year.” Robinson has been dubbed the Jason Pierre-Paul of tight ends by some in the Giants’ organization due to his size-speed combination (6’5/269, 4.56). But he’s been unable to stay healthy, and this summer might be Robinson’s last to make an impression in New York. He currently sits atop the depth chart with Brandon Myers a free agent, but Robinson is going to have to go out and earn an offensive role. (Rotoworld.com)

I’ll believe it when I see it. This will be one of new OC Ben McAdoo’s top challenges this summer. Good luck to him. In the interim, the Giants will be scouring the countryside for reliable, TEs that will actually play this season.

Speaking of McAdoo, Don Banks of SI.com has listed his hiring as one of the NFL’s top moves this offseason. Banks sees McAdoo as “young Andy Reid” with a high upside that can turn the Giants’ stale offense into something formidable. (Read Here)

CB Terrell Thomas would gladly accept Michael Sam as a teammate, but has other advice for him as well. From the NY Post:

“I don’t believe in it, I don’t respect it, but if that’s what you want to do, so be it,’’ Thomas told The Post Tuesday night, a day after Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch said if Sam is deemed worthy of selection, he will be taken by the team. “I can’t speak for the NFL or our team or the locker room, I just know what goes on and what type of situation it’s going to put a lot of guys in.’’

6'5, 269, 4.56. Sounds like Robinson should get a look at DE>

I have to assume blog is not interested in discussing TTs pathetic views.

We've all heard great things about Robinson since he's been drafted and dubbed as the "JPP of Tight Ends" whatever that means, but if you can't stay healthy when you're just practicing, how the hell are you going to stay healthy when you finally hit the field in a real game? Good luck to him, but until I see it, I'll remain a bit skeptical...

TT lost some major respect points but hey its his opinion. To each his own.

Despite the Giants confidence in Robinson, they will still need to either draft TE or sign one in free agency. Based the TE's available in free agency, I would think that they will most likely draft one. The question is, will they draft one early (Eric Ebon or perhaps Austin Seferian-Jenkins) or the later rounds (Troy Niklas, Jace Amaro, Xavier Grimble). I guess that decision will be based on how well the Giants feel Robinson will be ready for the starting role.

@hashburry  It's amazing how much of a big deal people are making over this announcement.  I don't know why discrimination in the workplace cannot extend into the "locker room" any more than it can in any other career.  Seriously, don't bother throwing out the "shower" BS.  SO FREAKING WHAT!  When you go into the locker room at your local gym to shower do you check around to make sure everyone is straight?  Nope.  Everyone will adjust . . . or go find a career doing anything else that pays anything close to what the NFL does if you cannot.  Good luck.

I'm tired of these multi-million dollar babies complaining about chemistry issues or talk about beliefs.  It's a workplace and follows the same laws as any other profession.  They cannot discriminate and these guys need to evolve just like every other workplace in America . . . like it or not.  I'm glad this kid came forth and was honest . . . if he's available when the Giants have him up on the board I hope they take him too . . . NOT because he's gay but because he's the current SEC Defensive Player of the Year and plays at a position of need going into the draft.

At the end of the day it's about results on the field.  Everything else takes care of itself if you can help the team win on the field then the rest of it is bunk.  Hopefully this is a good first step in making it less of a big deal for each successive guy who makes a similar announcement in the NFL going forward.

@joeknix @hashburry  I agree.  Maybe these football players should look inside themselves when they judge while they take a knee in one of their post game prayer circles.
