John Fennelly, Lead WriterWelcome to the 2014 regular season, Giant fans.
Recapping the last few days of transactions….the Giants placed LG Geoff Schwartz (toe) on short-term IR, meaning he will miss at least the first eight games of the upcoming season.
Veteran OL Adam Snyder was signed to fill Schwartz’ roster spot. Snyder, 32, spent most of nine-year career with San Francisco. Over that time, he has played in 137 regular-season games with 87 starts – 28 at right guard, 21 at both right and left tackle, 14 at left guard and three at center. Snyder was released by the 49ers last week.
The practice squad is at it’s ten-man capacity after the signing of DT Dominique Hamilton and TE Jerome Cunningham. Hamilton, a UDFA out of Missouri in 2012 has spent tim with Oakland, Washington and Kansas City. Cunningham spent much of the summer in Giants’ camp taking reps at the TE position before being waived August 26th.
For those interested, DT Kelcy Quarles, claimed last week by New England after being waived by the Giants, was dropped yesterday and is now a free agent.
Since the Giants are playing Monday night, they will treat today like a Wednesday. They will practice today and tomorrow and travel to Detroit on Sunday. The game is scheduled for a 7:10 EDT kickoff and can be seen on ESPN. The game will also be broadcast locally on WABC Ch. 7.
The football world has little confidence in the Giants as the regular season nears. The line has gone from Giants +4 to Giants +5 1/2 over the past few days. The O/U is 47.
