Thursday camp notes: Bumps and bruises begin to surface

A nice mix of sun and clouds out at QDTC today for a lively practice in full pads that was not quite revealing. Odell Beckham, Jr. and David Wilson were both inactive but both stayed close to the field to keep current with the new offense.

Beckham caught a few passes on faux coverage at half speed while Wilson’s day was highlighted by rescuing a flightless bird that wandered onto the field.

Head coach Tom Coughlin was asked after practice if there was any news on Wilson, who is scheduled to have his ailing neck reexamined early next week.

The answer was a quick “no”, but the coach later elaborated on the subject, adding little light:

“Until we here what the doctors say, I am just praying that the kid is okay. When he was cleared to play he came out and exhibited no fear, no nothing. I was really excited about that coming out. We are obviously concerned, but we will have to wait and see what the doctors say.”

Several players were removed from the field due to injury. Rookie CB Bennett Jackson and WR Corey Washington got tangled up on a deep pass. Both were done for day with apparent lower leg/ankle/foot issues.

OT Will Beatty’s day was shortened by illness. DE Robert Ayers went down with an ankle, but was seen jumping up and down on the sidelines a few minutes later.

LB Spencer Paysinger continues to be held after suffering a concussion in practice last Sunday.

WR Trindon Holliday (leg) did not practice again. DT Mike Patterson (shoulder), OL John Jerry (knee), LB Spencer Adkins (groin) and CB Travis Howard (knee) were also spectators today.

The good news…TE Larry Donnell’s strong camp resumed as he impressed with several catches today. WR Rueben Randle returned to duty and scored on a corner fade from Eli. LB Jon Beason continues to do individuals on the side. He appeared to be moving well.
