Offensive linemen and tight ends took the field yesterday at the NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The three top lineman – Auburn’s Greg Robinson, Jake Matthews of Texas A&M and Taylor Lewan of Michigan – all performed as advertised. The first two will surely be gone by the time the Giants select at No. 12 in this year’s draft. Lewan could be gone as well. He looked impressive.
In the TE drills, I personally think the Giants have a shot at one of my top two: Notre Dame’s Troy Niklas or CJ Fiedorowicz of Iowa. Both players helped themselves yesterday as did Texas Tech’s Jace Amaro. All three of these guys remind me a bit of Kevin Boss – big guys with good hands who can get that extra yardage after the catch.
Giants’ GM Jerry Reese told reporters that he will let DE Justin Tuck, WR Hakeem Nicks and LB Jon Beason test the free agent market. Reese also said the Giants would be patient where they needed to be, saying there will be good players to be had in the “second and third wave” of free agency.
