The Giants are off today, on their way to Canton for tonight’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony and tomorrow night’s preseason opener vs Buffalo in the Hall of Fame Game.
Pro Bowl WR Victor Cruz was asked what the team hopes to accomplish on Sunday night.
“To go out there and be clean offensively and be concise, and try to have as few mental errors as possible and we will see happens,” said Cruz. “To just get that football feeling back. I missed the last three games last year, so I haven’t played a game in a while. I want to get back to playing football again, getting hit again, and getting used to that contact again. I am ready for it.”
The new offense will finally be unwrapped, but the Giants’ two fastest players – rookie WR Odell Beckham, Jr. (hamstring) and RB David Wilson (neck) – will not take part due to injury.
“It is a new offense, so we are excited to get out there and run our offense against someone other than ourselves and see how it goes and how other teams take and play it and what things we can do against other teams,” Cruz added. “As well as how we do against our own team to see what skills we have and see things that we can do right. It should be exciting for us.”
QB Eli Manning, who is reenergized by the uptempo, efficent-based play calling of new OC Ben McAdoo, is stoked to get this show on the road.
“I’m excited to get out there and see all of the mechanics of how this offense is going to go. Just hearing the plays from coach (Ben) McAdoo (the offensive coordinator), just the flow of how he’s going to call things, what his thought process is going to be going into the game. I think all that will be interesting, whether I’m out there or afterwards when (Ryan) Nassib’s in there and (Curtis) Painter. I’ll be in tuned, just hearing him, how he’s calling things, how he’s saying things and what pace and the tempo of how we’re going to try to run this offense.”
Adam Schein & Sal Licata on the new offense the Giants will be installing this year and Eli Manning’s goal of completing 70% of his passes.
Body count….Rookie CB Bennett Jackson has a “significant” ankle sprain and will be held out of the preseason opener. LB Spencer Paysinger (concussion) has not practiced all week, so he’s likely out, too. Others who missed practice Friday: DT Mike Patterson (shoulder), DE Robert Ayers (ankle), WR/KR Trindon Holliday (hamstring) and TE Xavier Grimble (hamstring).
