Saturday Morning Report: Reviewing Week One of camp

John Fennelly, Lead Writer

Week One of camp is almost over, with the Giants taking a day off today and ending the week’s workouts tomorrow with drills in full pads.

On Friday, the Blue donned helmets and shoulder pads on a perfect day in Northern New Jersey. From GEICO SportsNite: Jon Beason and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie address the media from Giants training camp.

The first week of camp didn’t exactly rattle the world, but we have learned some things…

Rookie LB Devon Kennard is everything GM Jerry Reese said he was after the draft. He’s showing the ability not only make plays, but become a leader on the defense.

MLB Jon Beason (foot) believes he will be ready for the season and even wants to see action in a preseason game.

Veteran JD Walton is assuming the starting position at center over rookie Weston Richburg, who is now in the mix to replace the retired Chris Snee at RG.

The TE scrum is still very unsettled. Of the five players vying for the starting spot, only Larry Donnell has made any strides. Adrien Robinson, the player the club is hoping eventually wins the job, was listed fifth on the latest depth chart.

RB David Wilson (neck) was cleared for duty on Monday and has shown why he was a first round selection several years ago. The guy has moves and he’s making a case for a role in the new offense.

The team is dealing with their first round pick possibly falling way behind early in camp due to injury. The Daily News Live panel discusses their concern over Giants rookie WR Odell Beckham Jr. missing training camp with an injured hamstring.

Would love for Wilson to come back and win the starting position, prove everyone wrong.
