Report: NFL 2014 Salary Cap may see 10% bump

We reported last week that the NFL Salary Cap would take a significant jump this season, perhaps to $130 million. TV revenues are starting to roll in and now the cap is expected to be even higher beginning this season.

From Mike Florio of PFT:

“Reports have put the salary cap as high as $132 million for 2014, the same source has said, once again, it will be higher.

Per the source, the cap could be a “few million” higher than $132 million. If this means $3 million more than reported, the cap could be as high as $135 million. That would amount to an 9.75 percent increase over last year, the biggest spike by far since the 2011 labor deal was negotiated.”

That would help the Giants greatly, who are not only looking to score several big name UFAs bus are also trying to re-sign several of their own free agents (i.e. Linval Joseph) this spring.

It's a "win" for the Giants because the were pretty much right up against the cap, with only 30 or so players under contract.

I don't necessarily see this 10% bump in the cap as a "win" for the Giants. All it really means is that everyone else also has an extra 10% bump in cap space as well, and the Giants will be competing against those 31 other teams to sign free agents. Nothing here has changed drastically in favor of the Giants over other teams. Many teams had more space than the Giants did and still do, and the teams that were above or tight against the cap now have a bit more wriggle room than they previously had. It's what the Giants do with the cap space they have that matters.

@spider43  The Giants have a lot of cap space if they want it They have several contracts easily renegotiated and/or extended

I believe they will surprise a lot of people by letting both Tuck and Joseph walk, definately Joseph because the salary difference between him and Hankins is to big and Hankins may very well be similar slightly better worse then Joseph.

The surprise is this they'll go after Hardy Bennet or one of the premiere DE so the also letting Tuck won't matter and we'll have a serious upgrade.

They'll sign the best OL they possibly get and probably another, They'll sign Finley for TE at a incentive laden contract. They'll sign Beason. They'll draft a WR no 1 and a CB no 2

Mark my words, you'll see
