Monday News: The Frenzy is almost here

The frenzy is rapidly approaching and the rumors will begin to intensify. Don’t believe everything you read. If you have any specific questions, please send them in.

What you absolutely need to know this morning…

Free agency begins tomorrow at 4pm. Until then, teams can negotiate with players slated to hit the open market as unrestricted free agents but no offers can be made or contracts signed until after the new football year begins at 4:01pm on Tuesday.

At last glance, the Giants have made inquiries about three players: Ravens’ DE Arthur Jones, Titans’ CB Alterraun Verner and Packers’ TE Andrew Quarless.

The Giants have also made a “negotiating position” to S Ryan Mundy, who was rumored to be coveted by the Bears.

WR Hakeem Nicks is backing away from his claim that he will accept a one-year deal. He also has stated he’d like to play in Carolina, San Diego or Indianapolis.

Keep in mind, GM Jerry Reese used the term “second and third wave” of free agency several times in his address at the combine. They will be active in free agency but will not overpay. They may wait for things to settle down to get the players they need.
