Although Manti Te’o improved his 40 time at Notre Dame’s pro day today (4.71 as compared to the 4.82 he ran at the combine) he has reportedly decided not attend the NFL Draft here in NYC next month.
From Josh Alper of PFT:
It’s almost certainly the right choice for Te’o if he wants to avoid the media circus that accompanied him to the combine in Indianapolis. The “Catfishing” story that broke earlier this year would be everywhere all over again and the prospect of an ugly scene with Te’o taking the stage in front of a New York City crowd is likely one that neither Te’o nor the league would much like to entertain.

Good move by Te’o and his people. We would have liked to have the chance to interview him, but I guess that will have to wait. It’s looking more and more like he will not be selected high in the first round, which would leave him in the green room for an extended period, adding further media focus on him.
If you recall several years ago in 2010, another controversial figure (Tim Tebow) chose to skip the draft. He was selected 25th overall by Denver. Tebow had been in Manhattan earlier in the week, but projections had him falling out of the first (and second) round and he decided to leave NYC before the draft.
