The Giants completed their first day of rookie minicamp at TPC under sunny skies and warm temperatures on Friday. They will not be so fortunate today as clouds, rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for most of the day.
What you need to know about yesterday:
Ryan Nassib appeared comfortable at QB, despite having little time with the playbook and no prior time with most of the other players at camp.
The Giants signed veteran LB Aaron Curry to a one-year contract. They also signed six UDFAs and and four of their draft picks. One UDFA – LSU TE Chase Clement – was not at camp. He apparently failed his physical.
GEICO SportsNite has reaction from Ryan Nassib and Justin Pugh on reporting for Rookie Minicamp.
Some camp observations…..
Ohm Youngmisuk, ESPN NewYork: Rookie safety Cooper Taylor looks as advertised as a 6-foot-4 safety. The Giants love his blend of size and speed as a potential third safety. It will be interesting to see how he continues to progress… Defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins and guard Eric Herman both are listed at 320 pounds and are big boys.
Third round pick Damontre Moore is excited to be Giant. The team plans to use him in the ‘joker’ role, currently held by Mathias Kiwanuka, who is moving back to DE. Moore played the role in college, which is a hybrid between a DE and an OLB.
Q: Do you foresee yourself as a guy that can put up a lot of sacks in this league?
A: I would like to think so. Only time will tell. I’m just going to go in there, work hard, study film and learn from the greats and hopefully something will happen and everything will fall into place.
Q: Do you like coming to an organization that’s known to get after the quarterback?
A: Yes. That gives me a lot of excitement because there’s a lot of veterans and there’s a lot of talented people here right now that are teaching and coaching, so I’m just sitting here just trying to soak it all in and just ready to get to work and I’m just really eager. Hopefully some of their talents just rub off on me and I can have a little success.
Q: What were your first impressions of Perry Fewell?
A: The guy is the real deal. They mean business, so it’s time to get to work.
