Wilson, Brown Preparing to Share Load at RB

John Fennelly, Lead Writer

The running back position in the NFL has undergone major changes in recent years. Most NFL teams don’t ask just one player to carry the mail for them any longer. Rushing attacks have become a collaborative effort of situational players who possess different styles. The position has also been devalued at the NFL Draft, where no running backs selected in the first round for the first time in league history this past April.

The Giants understand the need for a stable of rushers. They recently won a championship deploying a three-pronged approach called “Earth, Wind and Fire.” All of those players are gone, now, and the the team is turning to two uniquely talented young men – David Wilson and Andre Brown.

Wilson is a scatback that take a handoff to the house at any time. Brown is bigger, bruising type that can make positive yards in tight spaces. The Giants’ current depth chart shows both players as the team’s No.1 back. Neither player seems concerned about their placement. They both know they going to see plenty of action.

“We’re both going to contribute. The depth chart is a political thing, something that they have to put out there so the fans and other teams will know. You know, like I said, it’s mostly for the media,” Wilson told reporters Sunday before practice. “Regardless of who’s in there, we’ve just got to all prepare, mentally and physically in camp. Going into those games and showing the coaches what we can do and what we’ve learned and how we’ve grown over the year. Then roles will be put in place more, I say permanent but not permanent, but more based on the offense as far as what we know we’ve got to do.”

Brown is focused more on conditioning, an aspect being stressed by RB coach Jerald Ingram, who told Brown and Wilson to get prepared for a 16-game marathon. Brown has never played a full season and Wilson was used sparing as a rookie last year.

“He (Ingram) said that we were going to get a lot of carries, it’s a lot different. We have to increase our conditioning and make sure that we’re ready to go into the fifteen, twenty play drives where he doesn’t want to see us tapping out … and ready to come out. If the guy’s hot, he wants that. It’s going to keep the offense moving. Just making sure that we’re in shape and being able to carry the load,” said Browm the other day.

Like everyone else I'm very happy with the start we've had and I'd like to see Capuano succeed but I just don't believe that he's the coach that takes this team to the next level no matter what kind of players Snow brings in. I know it's just an opinion but he just doesn't seem like the kind of coach that will skate the team hard after the game if they're not gonna skate hard during the game. If Snow happens to make a coaching change he needs to bring in someone from the outside. I don't know what it would take but I'd like to see a guy like Brian Sutter come in. He was a pretty good player and a hard-nosed competitor and  pound for pound probably the toughest of all the Sutters. He has 450 coaching wins so the experience is there. Hopefully he'd be able to bring in the same results like brother Darryl in L.A.

Rethinking the Kane deal now. His personality could loosen some things up. Bailey,clutter buck,rhinehart for him?

The team is not panicing just like smiling jack cappy

the man is  atrocious at playing Defense and I use the word defense loosely

anybody to get strat out of the lineup

What the .,;:&$ is he laughing about! U guys catch his little chuckles ...........amazing. This team needs a no nonsense kinda guy to come in here.......bad December and they are a 500 club and bubble playoff team. Great start will be wasted. Make a coaching change before it's too late.............look at OTTAWA and listen to Murrays press conf. after the McLean firing.......had to make a change and was not afraid to do it........

Again there is a huge problem when the coach is not mad after a game like this and Brian Strait must be going for some kind of record

 I commented the other day when the Islanders were 18-6 that if they just played 500 hockey 29-29 the rest of the way they would be in the playoffs with 94 points. Since that comment the Islanders are 1-4.

as  a matter of fact Amac is a better Dman,even though i disliked him tremendously  at least he blocked shots, strait doesn't do any of that

I dont want to sound like someone who piles on .But this Coach is not the solution.I hope I am wrong.

strait almost makes me wish AMac was back here

to many passengers on this team right now not enough commitment to winning a hockey game

                   Three losses in a row to 3 really good teams. If we lose Saturday to Chicago then the Islanders beating top teams could be over.

get CC out of here

So outscored 11-1 in the 3rd in the last 3 games.

Whats disappointing is allen was/is so beatable we could have stole this game.

@Lou Martini Jr. You think they lost because they didn't score enough??

They gave up 17 goals in 3 games. They are "too loose"..

That package will not land E. Kane.

Either way I'm fine with..........mayfield brings the crease clearer that we need right now. Pullock is going to be a monster player for us if not later this season,then next season for sure.

@truth77

someone needs to rip that page off

@Lou Martini Jr.

yeah Lou, i saw that too what is he smiling about? another loss in a row

@David Rosenthal

notice when they lose he says 'they' when they win he says 'we'

@alarbour91 Just a guess, but I don't think Weight is on the staff to help with the defense.. But if you want to blame the defensive issues on a guy who played about 1200 games at forward- you roll with it.. Right out the door, and into on coming traffic..

Now if you want to be angry because the Isles PP was 2/8 vs the Blues - to the rest of the world that is running at 25% - well go be angry..

@rmbbanned2 @Lou Martini Jr.

what i was saying was a change in attitude. They are a very easy to play against vanilla team.loose as in some swagger.....thats what i meant by bringing in a Kane type of player. even the old Chris stewart if he could be rejuvenated here................I think Torterella would even help if he would take an assistant job with the PK and let cronin go.

Lou Martini Jr.
Lou Martini Jr.

I just don't get this guy......frustrating,I just don't get his lack of fire. Can't tell me it doesn't rub off on team.....

@Lou Martini Jr.

absolutely correct they see him like that and it rubs off on them no doubt
