Wednesday Morning Update: ‘December to Forget’ in full swing

The Giants will be back working today at QDTC, probably inside since the temperature is not expected to rise higher than the freezing mark.

As reported last night, the Giants placed RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) on season-ending IR and promoted LB Marcus Downtin from the practice squad. Downtin, a UDFA out of North Alabama in 2012, has spent time with the Jets, Eagles and Bills.

Jacobs is the 10th player to be added to the injured reserve list by the Giants. The Giants have $19.7 million of their $124 million adjusted salary cap on the reserve/injured list. That’s the fifth most of any team (READ MORE).

Art Stapleton of the Record writes what we have been harping on all year: Eli Manning doesn’t deserve a pass this season. It is not a “down year” for Eli. He’s been on skid row before…

Manning threw 25 interceptions in 2010 — worst in the NFL — and three seasons later, he is again at the top of the league list with 20, only this time with the company of Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith.

The chances of Manning approaching the statistical low point of his professional career are high, too, with Seattle’s highly-regarded Legion of Boom secondary coming to MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon in the first of three games to finish out the season.

The Giants have a boatload of problems, true, but Eli has has only added to them. It is an unnerving situation when your franchise QB is more a part of the problem than he is the solution. Make all the excuses you want, but with all of his weapons healthy and Andre Brown back in the lineup, Eli has still not gotten the job done, sorry to say.
