Three Things: Giants vs Colts

John Fennelly, Lead Writer

Some things I will be watching in tonight’s game vs the Colts:

Run defense….Last week in Pittsburgh it looked like the same old Giants vs the run. The Steelers racked up 81 yards on 17 carries in the first half (an average of 4.8 YPC) and drove the ball quite easily in between the 20′s on the Giants. Tonight, the Colts will try to establish the run to limit exposing QB Andrew Luck to the Giants’ pass rush. They are not known for their ability to rush the football, but RB Vick Ballard did average 6.0 YPC last week vs the Bills. The Giants need to maintain gap control and do some stuffing like we were promised when the Giants began collecting DTs earlier this year.

Run offense….RB Andre Brown is a positive-yardage back. He averaged 5.8 YPC on four attempts last week, but he’s splitting time with David Wilson, who is a home-run hitter, but has issues finding holes most plays. He has to show he can overcome that and hit the line quicker. Da’Rel Scott needed to show some progress or risk losing his spot to rookie Michael Cox, if he hasn’t done so already. He won’t play tonight, providing Cox with a golden opportunity.

Tight ends…..Larry Donnell (sprained knee) is not going to play, so Adrien Robinson may get a longer look than expected. He is going to have to make some noise tonight so we don’t forget he’s here. Last week, he was targeted only once – a four yard reception. Brandon Myers and Eli Manning are starting to click, and tonight we may see a preview of what their relationship could blossom into. Myers is money in the bank when it comes to catching the football and Eli is beginning to trust that talent. It will be interesting to see where this goes and how far…
