For the second consecutive Sunday, the Giants will be idle. They host the 1-4 Minnesota Vikings at MetLife tomorrow on Monday Night Football.
Some quick notes…DE Jason Pierre-Paul (illness) and RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) are questionable for this week, meaning rookie DE Damontre Moore may finally see extensive action. He’s had a slew of injuries (most notably a shoulder) that have sidetracked him, so hopefully his presence will elevate the performance of both the defense and special teams.
Newly-acquired RB Peyton Hillis will be thrust right into action. The Giants are hoping he’s a quick study…
“He’s going to have to play. The injury factor has been incredible, so he’s going to play some,” said OC Kevin Gilbride. “We’re just kind of waiting and seeing and trying to judge exactly how much he can pick up in a short period of time. Fortunately, he’s a bright guy. He’s been down in Tampa Bay, which uses our system, so he’s more familiar than the average guy would be coming into a brand new situation. There’s a lot of nomenclature and terminology that he’s familiar with, so I think that’s going to expedite the process, but it’s still new. There are still some differences, so we’re kind of assessing it as we go, but right now he’s been impressive.”
Hillis, who has bounced around the past few years, from Cleveland to Kansas City to Tampa is pleased to get another shot at the NFL. He believes he can help Big Blue right off the bat.
“I expect to be in the playbook and play as much as I possibly can,” Hillis said. “I think that as long as I get the playbook down, they’ll let me play. I’m really looking forward to it because I think I can help this team.”
