Some offseason tidbits….
Today begins the voluntary offseason program for the Giants at Timex Performance Center. As stated in the previous post, it’s “voluntary,” but considering how many veteran players around the league are out of work, expect large turnouts this week.
The Giants will be welcoming several new players into the fold, who they recently signed as free agents: TE Brandon Myers; DTs Cullen Jenkins and Mike Patterson; LB Dan Connor; S Ryan Mundy; WR Louis Murphy and K Josh Brown. CB Aaron Ross is returning after spending a year down in Jacksonville.
Also returning are several of their own players who were retained via free agency: DT Shaun Rogers, OT Will Beatty, OL Kevin Boothe, QB David Carr, CB Terrell Thomas, LB Keith Rivers and RB Ryan Torain.
Gone are: DT Chris Canty (who was released and signed by Baltimore); TE Martellus Bennett (Chicago), LB Chase Blackburn and WR Domenik Hixon (both to Carolina) and DE Osi Umenyiora (Atlanta) who left via free agency.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw and Michael Boley were also released. Neither has signed with a new team. K Lawrence Tynes, DT Rocky Bernard, WR Ramses Barden, TE Travis Beckum, T Sean Locklear, CB Justin Tryon, RB Kregg Lumpkin and CB Brian Witherspoon all became free agents on March 12th and are still on the market.
It is unknown whether Victor Cruz or RB Andre Brown will be in attendance. Both are restricted free agents who were tendered by the Giants. Neither has a signed contract and would have to sign a waiver to participate. You know Cruz’ situation. Brown is expected to show. He recently switched representation to Drew Rosenhaus, so he should sign and be here shortly.
