Hey…welcome to the working week, to coin a title from Elvis Costello. While most normal people are enjoying their Labor Day weekend, the football world continues to turn. The Giants will run their first regular season workout this morning, then take tomorrow off before ramping up activities on Wednesday and Thursday.
Seven players cut on Saturday were back at Quest on Sunday as part of the practice squad. DE Matt Broha, who spent all of 2012 on the Giants’ practice squad, and OL Stephen Goodin, who was there for the second half of 2012, are back.
DE Adewale Ojomo was on the regular roster for the entire regular season last year, but only played in one game, making him eligible. Seventh round draft pick OL Eric Herman cleared waivers and was brought back. So were CB Charles James, WR Marcus Harris and WR Julian Talley. They can add one more player at any time.
Favorite quote of the week comes from RB David Wilson, who was asked if he considered a short-yardage and goal-line back:
“I run in between the tackles. Don’t get confused by my size, I’m a physical guy. I’m from the country so, you know, I grew up chopping wood and building houses with my dad, all that, I’m well put together.”
|Getting off to a strong start is important. Over the past 10 years, eight teams have a winning percentage of at least .600 through the season’s first month. Those eight clubs have combined to win eight of the 10 Super Bowl championships during that span. The eight teams with a .600+ winning percentage in the opening month over the past 10 seasons (2003-12):
The Giants will play the NFL’s 24th toughest schedule this season. Their 2013 opponents had a composite winning percentage of .480. They will play 9 teams that had a record of .400 or better and six games vs playoff teams.
The Giants will travel a total of 10, 944 miles this season, which is the ninth-lowest total in the league. The 49ers will travel the most (32, 948) and the Lions will travel the fewest (4,202)
