Short answers were in order from Tom Coughlin after practice today out at Quest. He was asked if he planned on playing any of his offensive starters vs the Pats on Thursday.
“Well, I’m strongly inclined to do that. It’s just how much, that’s all.”
He was asked what his message was to the players who are still fighting for roster spots:
“The message is this. There’s two practices, a game, look at the tape and cut to 53. That’s where we are. If you’re going to make a move, if you’re going to show something, someone who is looking to make our team that hasn’t made it before, I’d say that you need to get about the business of doing it. It’s time. There’s not a lot of time, but what opportunity you get to step on the field Thursday night, I’m hoping for your benefit that it’s a good one.”
A change was made on the offensive line, taking Jim Cordle out of the center position and replacing him with LG Kevin Boothe. James Brewer filled in at LG for Boothe. Cordle seemed overmatched at times against the Jets.
“We’ll try different combinations,” said Coughlin when asked about the shakeup. “Nothing wrong with that, I hope.”
On JPP (back) who was activated from the PUP list today: “Get him going. Get him out there. Get him running around. He’s just going to do individual for now, but it won’t be long.”
WR Victor Cruz (heel) was out of his walking boot. Coughlin was asked if Cruz was getting closer to returning.
“From my understanding, he is getting better but it’s certainly not tomorrow morning,” the coach said.
CB Corey Webster (knee, groin) was back on the field today as was S Antrel Rolle. WR Ramses Barden (knee) returned to practice today but WR Louis Murphy (leg) and CB Jayron Hosley (ankle) did not.
Rookie DE Damontre Moore (shoulder) did individual work but did not participate in the practice, which was in shells. Coughlin was asked if Moore was getting close to returning.
“I hope so. We’ll have to take a picture of him again. He came out and he was excited to be out here.”
