According to an NFL spokesperson:
Brandon Collins of the New York Giants has been suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2013 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.
Collins will be eligible to return to the Giants’ active roster on Monday, September 30 following the team’s September 29 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Collins is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games.

Collins is an up-and-comer on the Giants’ depth chart and this hurts not only his immediate chances but also his chances to play for the Giants down the road. He is a roster-bubble player at best right now and he will probably end up back on the practice squad when his suspension is lifted.
No word yet on what substance Collins tested positive for or when the violation occurred.
