Here we go…time to examine the body. A forensic look at the Giants after their loss to the Jets last night.
What I liked (hint, it’s not much)…
RB David Wilson did his Usain Bolt impersonation by blowing past the field with his 84 yard TD run. As I say, once the first guy misses him, they all miss. He’s gone.
LB Mark Herzlich played like a man who wanted his job back. Did he do enough? We’ll see.
CB Prince Amukamara continued to show his pedigree. Nice night from him especially when he wrested the ball from Jet receiver Ryan Spadola for an INT.
DT Marvin Austin had a bit of coming out party last night, finally showing the aggression and strength we were promised when the Giants drafted him three springs ago.
LB Kyle Bosworth seems to be around the ball a lot. When you play defense and special teams for a living, that’s a good thing from what I hear.
It was good to see CB Terrell Thomas back in action. He was on a pitch count, so he played only about 20 plays.
WR Jerrel Jernigan was in on 70% of the offensive snaps last night and considering he hasn’t played much, fared pretty well (5 rec, 66 yds). So what, you say, he had 15 passes thrown his way. He better catch at least five…
DT Mike Patterson looks more like a starter on the line than a reserve. To the naked eye, he looks better than Linval Joseph right now. Just sayin’…
What I didn’t like (quite a bit)…
Tom Coughlin deciding to tie the game with a FG to send it into overtime. IMO he should have gone for the win and ended this sorry excuse of a game. No need to expose more players to injury.
Speaking of injury, S Stevie Brown (knee) went down and the Giants gave Tyler Sash first dibs on playing time. Giant fans are anxious to see what rookie Cooper Taylor can do, but he never got into the game. Maybe his hammy isn’t ready. That better be the case, because Sash is not a cover guy.
The offensive line should get a pass because Chris Snee is still rounding into shape after hip surgery and Jim Cordle and Justin Pugh are new. But they were just awful last night. Looked to me like Sheldon Richardson ate them up pretty good.
The running game, after Wilson’s run, gained only 2.5 yards per carry. Andre Brown was only 7 for 17 and Da’rel Scott fumbled on his only attempt. Michael Cox, who many see as a major contributor going forward didn’t get a touch. Those went to Ryan Torain, who gained 33 yards on seven carries.
Eli Manning is not on the same page with his receivers at this point. At times they don’t even look like they ever played together. No synchronicity at all with Hakeem Nicks, but that should come soon, we hope.
After CB Jayron Hosley left the game with a sprained ankle, the Giants put Rueben Randle back a couple of times to return punts. Why? We’ve already seen what he can do there, which is not much. Charles James is your man. At least for now. The Giants cannot afford to get Randle hurt returning punts…
The TEs remain silent. Brandon Myers had one catch for five yards. Adrien Robinson had no catches and went for a hand x-ray, which was negative. Larry Donnell caught two passes for 18 yards. What’s going on here…?
