As we told you earlier the Giants have lost one free agent thus far – TE Martellus Bennett – and signed two – CB Aaron Ross and RB Ryan Torian. All deals are pending physicals, so the financials are forthcoming. Bennett’s deal is reported to be for four years.
SNY Giants insider Ralph Vacchiano of the Daily News reiterates what we’ve been telling you for years: The Giants have a knack of getting players with potential at rockbottom prices who they unfortunately lose down the road. Re-signing Bennett may have never been in their plans:
The Giants had wanted him to be in New York because they had only begun to tap his potential after he caught 55 passes for 626 yards and five touchdowns last season. The Giants had been negotiating with his agent for weeks and a source said they made another push to re-sign him over the weekend.
But the Giants have only $1.5 million in cap space, and Bennett – who played on a one-year, $2.5 million deal last season – knew he’d find a lot more money somewhere else.
Ross is expected to take a veteran minimum deal or something close to it.
In other FA news, the Giants have re-signed RB Ryan Torian, an RFA who they did not tender before the deadline…
