As poorly as the Giants played last night vs the Colts, the game could have easily been won. The Giants made plenty of mistakes, but the Colts got a little lucky, too. They got the bounces last night.
To be frank, the Giants were inefficient on offense when it counted: 3-for-15 on third down and 0-for-4 in the red zone. They settled for four FGs on the night, which would have been enough to win if…..
Aaron Ross picks off that Andrew Luck pass instead of volleying it up in the air in the end zone for Reggie Wayne to grab.
Colts’ backup kicker Brandon McManus hit the upright on a 50-yard attempt. Instead of the ball bouncing back harmlessly to the turf, it caromed through for three points.
The Giants’ defense played fairly well, officially only allowing three plays over 20 yards: the Ross miscue and two other short gains aided by 15-yard personal fouls.
Either way, it doesn’t change the fact that the Giants played another substandard game. Craig Santucci of Giants Rush gives his rants and raves for last night’s game….
Rant: David Diehl – it is obvious his time has come and gone. The warrior can no longer protect Eli Manning‘s back side or front side. He looked terrible last night and was one of the key contributors to the offense sputtering. He will eventually get No. 10 killed with his poor play.
Rave: Ramses Barden – a new number and a fresh approach. 4 catches/28 yards. While the receiver didn’t look flashy he showed some gamesmanship with a couple tough catches and he was productive when it counted.
Rant: Hello Mr. Reese…what will it take to draft a middle linebacker, I’m willing to give up something! The Giants need someone who can actually play. Dan Connor is the very, very poor man’s Chase Blackburn. This guy is never in the right place at the right time. Herzlich… I want to like this guy but what does he do? He over pursues “every” play. Take the time to watch him…he just runs around in circles.
Rave: I am sorry David Wilson but your’re going to have to become the starter, or do I mean Andre Brown. Who cares…these guys look great! Brown looked shall I say nimble in the 2nd Quarter leaping over a defender to acquire a first down. Wilson was just fast and showed versatility with a great catch and run out the back field.
Rant: Hakeem Nicks – while grabbing two nice 20 yard grabs looked slow and sloppy. The new jersey’s when worn outside the pants look terrible. While in the the past the old jerseys had a neat look, this long sloppy look did not work for No.88. Nicks also did not look very explosive and his routes seemed slow and rounded. Does he need to get in shape from all this time out of camp?
Rave: Michael Cox might have only returned one kick…but the 36 yard rip showed this 7th round draft pick deserves to stay.
