John Fennelly, Lead WriterThe Giants will practice once more today at Quest before leaving for Dallas tomorrow.
Thus far, no surprises on the injury front. OL David Diehl (thumb) has been ruled out for Sunday’s game vs the Cowboys. C David Baas (knee) and TE Adrien Robinson (foot) did not practice again yesterday and will likely be doubtful.
WR Victor Cruz (heel), RB Henry Hynoski (knee), DE Damontre Moore (shoulder), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (back) were all limited. Still no word on JPP, but it has been reported that Hynoski will not play Sunday.
Five players were named team captains yesterday: QB Eli Manning, LS Zak DeOssie and DE Justin Tuck were selected again along with first-timers Chris Snee and S Antrel Rolle.
“ I was extremely honored. As a young kid, you always dream about certain things,” said Rolle. “You dream about playing in the NFL, you dream about making Pro Bowls. I know being named captain of the New York Football Giants is a huge accomplishment. It’s something I never, ever even imagined would take place. I’m definitely excited for it and I thank my teammates for even having that trust in me and the accountability in me to even name me a captain. I’m extremely honored.”
Tom Coughlin was asked if it was good to have all of his offensive weapons back, but he remains concerned that WRs Hakeem Nicks and Victor Crus are still not back in the swing.
“You’ve got to practice. The quarterback needs to have people practice,” explained the coach. “They need to work together. They need to see things. Make sure they’re on the same page. You’re right. It is good to have everybody out there.”
RB David Wilson is set to carry the load this season for the Giants. He was asked yesterday if he feels like a different player this season, or a player who’s just getting a different opportunity…
“A mixture of both,” Wilson said. “It’s just that I know more of the offense this year and I can be more effective that way because I know if I’m asked to do something, I can do it. Last year I had limitations on not knowing certain things and not being able to react on the fly when certain opportunities were presented. Just having a year under my belt makes me more knowledgeable about the game.”
